This is a truly magnificent example of a Mashad carpet. It features a finely drawn vase design set within a prayer niche mihrab on a mellow madder field decorated with a myriad of finely drawn blossoms and leafy branches flanked by two decorative pillars. Framed by an indigo border decorated with fine blossoms, leaves and two guard stripes. This design has been inspired by the ‘Pahlavi’ collection of carpets in the Saadabad Palace, home of the last Shah of Persia.
