The Sultanabad Carpet

This collection with designs in soft-pastel hues came from the area of Sultanabad, now known as Arak which is located in central Iran. They used designs from the famous Ziegler carpets woven in Persia, Sultanabad in the late 19th century. It is thought that they were made primarily for export to European consumers. Through time the old Persian designs of the Sultanabad carpets were re-invented with a modern look to suit the more Western tastes. They are known for their monumental scale and palatial grandeur and continue to be a very popular design of carpets all over the world today.
